Lost City on the cover of Applied and Environmental Microbiology

Julia McGonigle has a new paper from her Ph.D. dissertation in Applied and Environmental Microbiology. The paper reports new genomes from bacteria in Lost City chimneys that have the genes necessary to metabolize formate, which we think is an important foundational carbon source for this ecosystem. And a photo taken by ROV Jason during our 2018 Lost City expedition is on the journal cover.
